Salem Man Arrested in Wal-Mart laptop theft

A Salem man was arrested Monday morning for allegedly stealing laptop computers from Wal-Mart to use in his new venture. Police say that Ryan Michael Tippetts put four laptops in a cart at Wal-Mart Springville April 30 and left without paying. He had allegedly triggered the panic alarm and a manager followed him outside. The manager reported Tippetts allegedly abandoned a theft laptop, but the charge remains on the back of his car and fled when he saw the manager. Police responded to Wal-Mart on Monday to retrieve the video of the incident. Tippetts had tried to return two of the laptops for a refund to the Payson Wal-Mart, where employees were able to obtain an identification of the image and alerted the police. In an affidavit of police officers contacted laptop recovery, who initially refused to take ownership of the laptops. He allegedly claimed to have bought laptops in the Springville Wal-Mart, but has not received. However, he later said he allegedly stole the laptops to a company he started and had no money to pay them. Tippetts was arrested and booked in County Jail in Utah to a charge of theft.
